Love, The Greatest Gift
IF I speak with the tongues of men and of Angels, but have not love: I am as a noisy brass gong, or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.
And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profits me nothing.
¶ Love is patient, is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast; is not arrogant,
Does not behave shamefully, seeks not its own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil;
Rejoices not in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth;
In everything it bears; in everything it believes; in everything it hopes; in everything it endures.
¶ Love never fails: but whether there are prophecies, they will cease; whether there be tongues, they will be made to end; whether there be knowledge, it will be set aside.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
But when perfection comes; then that which is in part will be put away.
¶ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see but dimly in a mirror; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then will I know, just as I am known.
And now remains faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
