The first chapter of 1st Peter is so clear and powerful on God’s expectations of how we should live our lives.
First he talks about us being made holy by the Spirit for the purpose of obedience. Obedience keeps coming up in the translation over and over again, so I can’t see how many Christians seem to be able to live their lives as they want, when the scriptures clearly say we are to pick up our cross daily and follow after Christ.
It also seems from Peter that the purpose of our Christian walk is the testing of our faith and that the end of our faith is the salvation of our souls.
Peter also talks about preparing our minds for action and being self controlled until the end as obedient children. He also encourages us to become holy as God is holy and to live our time of the earth in fear of God.
Peter also asks us to wash our souls clean by obeying the truth through the Spirit, this truth talked about it clearly the Word of God and not some subjective truth we conjure up within ourselves.
This chapter is one of the most comprehensive in dispelling the once saved, always saved argument in my opinion. Why would the scriptures exhort us over and over again to obey God and wash ourselves clean in the Word if it was not necessary for our salvation? Clearly the fear of God is foundational to our faith.
