Deceptive Doctrines
PAUL, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope;
2 To Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
3 ¶ Just as I besought you to remain at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia (that you might command some that they teach no other doctrine);
4 Neither give heed to myths and endless genealogies, which cause disputes; rather than the stewardship of Gods’ affairs, that is by faith.
5 Now the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and genuine faith.
6 Which some have departed from, turning aside into meaningless talk;
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor about what they affirm.
8 ¶ But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully;
9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient; for the ungodly and for sinners; for the unholy and worldly, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers;
10 For the sexually immoral, for homosexuals, for slave dealers, for liars, for false witnesses, and also if there be any other thing that is opposed to sound doctrine;
11 According to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
God’s Grace to Paul
12 ¶ And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord; who has enabled me, for he regarded me faithful, putting me into service;
13 Who was formally a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and violent: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
15 ¶ This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptance: that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16 But because of this I obtained mercy: that in me first, Jesus Christ might demonstrate all patience, for a pattern to those about to believe on him into life eternal.
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Fight the Good Fight
18 ¶ This command I entrust to you Timothy my son, according to the prophecies previously made on you: that in them you might fight a good battle;
19 Holding onto faith, and a good conscience; which some have put away concerning the faith, and have suffered shipwreck:
20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have handed over to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
