HAVING therefore these promises, dearly beloved; let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of the flesh and spirit: bring holiness to completion in the fear of God.
The Corinthians Repentance
2 ¶ Make room for us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
3 I speak this not to condemn you: for I have said before, that you are in our hearts, to die together and live.
4 Great is my boldness towards you, great is my boasting on behalf of you: I am filled with encouragement, I am exceeding joyful in all our affliction.
5 ¶ For, when we came into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted on every side; with confrontations without, and fears within.
6 Nevertheless God, that encourages the down cast, encouraged us by the coming of Titus;
7 And not by his coming only, but by the encouragement in which he was encouraged in you; when he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal toward me; so that I rejoiced all the more.
8 ¶ For though I grieved you with a letter; I do not regret it, though I did regret: for I perceive that the same letter has made you grieve, though only for a while.
9 Now I rejoice, not that you grieved, but that you grieved to repentance: for you were grieved after a godly manner; that in nothing, you suffered no loss from us.
10 For godly grief works repentance into salvation, which is without regret: but the grief of the world works death.
11 ¶ For behold this selfsame thing: that you grieved after a godly sort; what devotion it worked in you; yea, what defence of yourselves; yea, what indignation; yea, what fear; yea, what longing; yea, what zeal; yea, what giving of justice! In everything you have demonstrated yourselves to be clear in this matter.
12 Therefore, though I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the offender, nor for the sake of the offended: but that our devotion to you, in the sight of God might be made known to you.
The Joy of Titus
13 ¶ Through this, we were encouraged by your encouragement; yea, and exceedingly the more joyed, for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.
14 For if I have boasted anything to him regarding you, I was not put to shame; rather as we spoke all things regarding you in truth; even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found true.
15 And his inward affection toward you is even greater; remembering the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.
16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you, in all things.
