Wow, again!
This chapter when translated correctly is so powerful and fear inspiring.
It first talks about prophecy of coming false teachers, which has obviously come true, especially in our day but also closely following the apostles time.
It then goes onto talk about God’s judgement of these false teachers and tells the story of God reserving the angles that sinned, in chains of darkness in Tartarus.
Most translations translate Tartarus as Hell, but it is clearly not. Hell should be translated from the Greek word Gehenna which is the final place of judgement yet to come. Tartarus is mentioned in the Greek only once and seems to be a special place in Hades which also is often mistranslated as Hell in the English. Hades is the waiting place of the dead before judgement.
This chapter also talks about Sodom and Gomorrah being made an example for those that would live ungodly in future.
I think I’ve also been able to throw some light on verse 18 which seems mistranslated in other versions. Please read this verse and compare it to your favourite Bible translation to see what you think?
Verse 18 also fits in much better now with the end of the chapter, please read. If you believed in ‘Once Saved, Always Saved’ before reading this, hopefully you will now understand the scripture better that tells you to: ‘work out your salvation with fear and trembling’.
