Greeting
SIMON Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those that have received like faith with us, through the righteousness of our God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.
2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord;
3 Because his divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us to glory and virtue.
Acceptance into the Eternal Kingdom
4 ¶ Through whom, we are given exceeding great and precious promises: that through these you be partakers in the divine nature; having escaped the corruption which is in the world through covetousness.
5 And beside this, apply all diligence to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6 And to knowledge, self control; and to self control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness;
7 And to godliness, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, love.
8 ¶ Because, if these things be in you, and abound, they cause you to be neither idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that lacks these things is blind, nearsighted, and has forgotten that he was purified from his past sins.
10 ¶ Rather brothers, for this reason, labour to make your calling and election certain: because if you do these things, you will never fall:
11 Because in this way, acceptance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, has been provided for you.
12 Therefore, I will not be negligent to put you in remembrance of these things at all times, even though you know them, and are presently established in the truth.
Peter’s Coming Death
13 ¶ And, I think it right as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up in causing you to remember;
14 Knowing, that shortly I must put off my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.
15 But now I will labour, that after my departure you may always have these things in memory.
Certainty Through Prophecy
16 ¶ For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; rather we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 Because he received from God the Father, honour and glory when there came to him, from the majestic glory this distinctive voice: This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him on the holy mount.
19 Also, we have the sure word of prophecy; which you do well to pay close attention to; as to a lamp that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star rises in your hearts:
20 ¶ Knowing this first: that no prophecy of the scripture is of private interpretation.
21 Because, prophecy came not in times of old by the will of man; rather, by the Holy Spirit guiding the holy men of God to speak.
