Greeting to Gaius
THE Elder to the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2 ¶ Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brothers came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in truth.
4 I have no greater joy, than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5 ¶ Beloved, whatsoever you do for the brothers and for strangers, you do faithfully;
6 Whom, have borne witness of your love before the congregation; whom, you do well to bring forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God.
7 Because, for His name’s sake they went forth, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
8 We, therefore ought to receive such people, that we might be fellow workers for the truth.
Diotrephes and Demetrius
9 ¶ I wrote to the congregation: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not acknowledge us.
10 Therefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And, not content on this only: neither does he himself receive the brothers; and, forbids those that would, and casts them out of the congregation.
11 ¶ Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil; rather, that which is good. He that does good is of God; but, he that does evil has not seen God.
12 ¶ Demetrius has a good report from all men, and from the truth Himself; and, now we also bear witness; and you know that our witness is true.
13 ¶ I have many things to write, but I will not write to you with ink and pen:
14 But trust I shall see you shortly, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to you. Our friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
