Verse 16 and 17 took me nearly half a day to translate, but I think with great result.
In my translation verse 16 now says in effect that: God will tear down the rebuilt temple (Herods Temple) and rebuild it Himself. This matches up perfectly with what Jesus said about Herod’s temple:
John 2:9 “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again.”
My new translation of this also matched the Greek more closely than the other translations and also the Hebrew the Greek is quoting from.
In verse 17 every translation I have reviewed seemed to have missed a clear reference to Christ. Most translations put it:
“and all the Gentiles upon whom, my name is called”
But have failed to translate two words which would make it:
“and all the Gentiles upon whom, my name is called in Him”
I am more confident in my translation in particular, because this short “in Him” seems to summarise a reference to Christ from the rest of the text which is taken from in Isaiah 43:7.
