Jesus Greater than Moses
THEREFORE holy brothers, companions in the heavenly calling, consider carefully the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to the one whom appointed him; as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses; inasmuch as he who builds the house has more honour than the house itself.
4 For every house is built by someone; but he that built all things is God.
5 ¶ And Moses on one hand, was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a witness of those things which would be spoken of afterward;
6 On the other hand, Christ as a son over his own house; whose house we are, if we holdfast to the confidence and courage, and our rejoicing in the hope, firm unto the end.
Israel’s Rebellion an Example
7 ¶ Therefore as the Holy Spirit says: Today if you will hear his voice;
8 Harden not your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 Where your fathers put me to the test, proved me by testing, and saw my deeds forty years.
10 For this reason I was angry with that generation and said: They always stray in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I swore in my wrath: If indeed they enter into my rest!
12 ¶ Beware brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil distrusting heart, causing you to turn away from the living God.
13 But instead plead with and encourage one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we have become partakers in Christ, if the fundamental truth we trusted and depended upon, we continue to possess unto the end.
15 ¶ While it is said, today if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the rebellion.
16 Who then, were those who heard and rebelled? Was it not all that came out of Egypt through Moses?
17 And with whom was he angry forty years? Was it not with those that sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter into his rest? If not to them that were disobedient?
19 And we see they were not able to enter in, because of a lack of faith.
