Friendship with the World is Against God
FROM where come wars and strife among you? Is it not from your physical desires that wage war in your members?
2 You lust, and do not have; you kill and covert, and yet cannot obtain; you fight and war, yet you do not have: because you do not ask.
3 You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss: that you may spend it all upon your pleasures.
4 ¶ You adulterers and adulteresses: do you not know, that friendship with the world is hostility against God? Whosoever therefore wishes to be a friend of the world is ordained the enemy of God.
5 Or do you suppose that the scripture says in vain: The spirit which dwells in us longs to the point of jealousy?
6 But he gives us more grace. Therefore he says: God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Submit to God
7 ¶ Therefore, obey God, oppose the devil, and he will flee from you.
Matthew 4:1-2 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.
Matthew 4:3-4 And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.’ ”
Matthew 4:5-7 Then the devil *took Him into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple,
and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU’;
and ‘ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP,
SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.’ ”
Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.’ ”
Matthew 4:8-11 Again, the devil *took Him to a very high mountain and *showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.’ ” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.

Hebrews 5:11-13 Concerning whom we have many things to say, and it is hard to explain seeing you have become lazy and slow to understand. For how is it then; when by this time you are under moral obligation to be teachers, you have need that you be taught again the fundamental truth of the message of God; and are in need of having milk, and not of solid food. For every one that uses milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness: for he is an infant.
Hebrews 5:14 But on the other hand; solid food belongs to the mature, those who by means of repeated use have their senses trained to discern both good and evil.
9 Lament, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy into gloom.
Isaiah 60:2 – To comfort all who mourn;
Matthew 5:4 – Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Luke 12:37 – Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
11 ¶ Do not speak evil of one another brothers. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: And if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Luke 6:37-38 “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judges another?
13 ¶ Pay attention now, you that say: today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and make profit.
14 You, who knows not what tomorrow brings! For what is your life? You are just a vapour, that appears for a little while, and then disappears.
15 For this you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 But now, you rejoice in your arrogance, all such boasting is evil!
17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Romans 14:23 – for whatever is not from faith is sin
