The Spirit is Life, the Flesh is Death
THERE is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
5 ¶ For those that are of the flesh, have their minds on the things of the flesh; but those that are of the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For the carnal mind is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is hostile toward God: because it is not obedient to the law of God, neither indeed is it able to be.
8 So then those that are in the flesh are not able to please God.
Those of the Spirit are of Christ
9 ¶ But you are not of the flesh, but of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this one is not of him.
10 And if Christ be within you, the body is dead on account of sin; but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead lives in you; he that raised up Christ from the dead, will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that lives within you.
Those Lead by the Spirit are the Sons of God
12 ¶ Therefore, brothers, we are not those under obligation to the flesh, to live in accordance to the flesh.
13 For if you are living in accordance to the flesh, you shall die: but if in accordance to the Spirit, putting to death the deeds of the body, you shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, in union with whom, we cry out, Abba, Father.
16 ¶ The Spirit itself, testifies in support of our spirit that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then also heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if indeed we are suffering together with him, in order that we may also be glorified together with him.
From Suffering to Glory
18 ¶ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy in comparison with the glory which will be revealed toward us.
19 For the earnest desire of the creation is the revelation of the sons of God which it eagerly awaits.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but on account of the one who subjected it in hope,
21 That also the creation itself shall be delivered from the slavery of decay, into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 ¶ For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now;
23 And not alone, but also ourselves, whom have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, looking forward eagerly to the adoption (the redemption of our body).
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why does he yet hope?
25 But on the other hand, if we hope in that which we do not see, through patience and endurance we do eagerly await for it.
The Spirit Makes Intercession for Us
26 ¶ Likewise the Spirit also joins in helping in our infirmities: for we do not know what we should pray for, as we ought: but the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be expressed in words.
27 And he that searches the hearts knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because he pleads for the holy ones according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good, to those that love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed into the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 Moreover those whom he did preordain, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
The Elect Conquerors through God
31 ¶ What shall we say then about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how will he together with him, not also bestow on us all things?
33 Who shall bring charges against God’s elect? It is God that justifies?
34 Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, and even more, that has risen again? Who is also at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
35 ¶ Who can separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, On account of you we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to the slaughter.
37 But, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loves us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor Angels, nor rulers, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor powers in the world above, nor powers in the world below, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
