I know I keep saying this, but another amazing chapter.
One thing I have learnt about the Bible is it never rambles on, every verse and every word is packed with meaning. If you find the Bible lacking meaning in particular verses, it is because of the way the original languages have been translated into English.
This second chapter of First Corinthians start with Paul talking about him speaking only of Christ crucified and not of the wisdom of this world. He says he also did this with fear and trembling. Why fear and trembling? Because the early Congregation feared God and treated Him as Holy, a core doctrine that is missing in today’s Congregations.
The wisdom of God as spoken of in verses 6 onward, reinforces that the wisdom of God is hidden in a mystery to the people of this world and only spiritualty discerned by those who have the Sprit of God.
Verse 9 is also interesting. In the Bible, the consistent theme is that the promises of God are to those that love Him, not those He loves, or those who fear him, etc: but to those who love him, as a loving son loves his father.
I think we need to ask ourselves sometimes, do we really love God? It easy to say that we do, but do we really. Remember the scriptures say: How can you love God whom you have not seen, when you do not love your brother who you have seen? That is why Jesus says that the world will know we are his disciples by our love for one another. Do we display the love of God amongst ourselves as believers? If not, we should ask ourselves why and test ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith.
